Bachelor of Agribusiness (B Agribusiness)
Program Purpose
The program is designed to provide an appreciation of the agricultural business environment and an understanding of the business operations within the food and fibre industries.
Agribusiness is defined as the sum total of all operations involved in the:
manufacture and distribution of farm supplies
production processes on farms
storage, processing and marketing of farm commodities and products made from them
Agribusiness therefore encompasses all food and fibre production, processing and marketing. This program prepares students for entry into managerial positions in agribusiness firms.
Program outline
A student for the degree in the specialisation Agribusiness must obtain #90 from subjects listed in Group A; and #100 from QM218, QM219, QM220, QM222, QM223, QM239, QM241, QM327, QM329; and at least #50 from other subjects listed in the program subject list or from any other subjects which have been approved by the Dean; and undertake at least 25 working days of vacation practical work in agribusiness in at least two positions approved by the Dean.
Students should consult an academic advisor when choosing electives. A candidate must obtain #240 to graduate.
Schedule B electives appear in the student handbook. A range of recommended electives are shown in the Recommended Program. Some of these are not included in Schedule B and you will need the Dean’s approval for these.

opportunities
For Australian Agribusiness to remain successful, it needs
graduates who are internationally orientated, consumer focused, commercially aware, technically
competent and innovative.
Graduates find
employment as:

commodity traders

marketers
·
trainee managers
·
managers of company run farms
·
sales representatives
·
managers with agribusiness companies
·
bankers
They may work as suppliers to producers, involved in anything
from seeds to finance, in marketing or merchandising domestically or for export; in processing,
retailing or even in the management of a farm or other production enterprises. With experience,
graduates can expect to progress to senior management positions.
In the final year, an
Overseas Marketing Project is undertaken. Student groups are engaged as
consultants by agribusiness firms and travel to various Asian countries to undertake market
research. The project provides unique commercial experience in a foreign country and is
highly valued by potential employers.
A sound foundation in business management which allows graduates to work in areas outside of their area of specialisation
Industry experience gained through 20 days of vacation practical work
High level of graduate employment
An Honour year during which students can undertake a research project in an area of special
interest to them
Graduates are qualified for membership of the Agribusiness Association of Australia and New Zealand
